New York, Ortgies & Co, 1904. Hardcover. Yellow Cloth with gilt embossed summary on front cover and leather label with highlights on spine. Various paginations NO ILLUSTRATIONS in any of the catalogues, but all are priced. All of these catalogues are exceedingly rare in the marketplace, and seldom if ever are offered for sale, either individually or as a group. , Collection of Heinrich Hardt, Berlin 1931
Collection of Heinrich Hardt, Berlin 1931
(New York), (Yamanaka and Co.), 1931. Hardcover. A bound collection of about 100 sheets, containing about 154 mounted bw photographs mostly mounted on one side of the sheet. This is a hardcover volume and is a unique item. It documents (at a minimum) a significant portion of the Asian Art collectioon of Heinrich Hardt, who was from Berlin. There are mounted bw photographs divided into four sections, with no text at all. These four sections are "Jade and Stone" (50); "Bronze and Silver" (81); "Glass and Bone" (9); "Pottery" (14). On the back of each picture (all of which are printed on Agfa-Lupex paper) are pencilled notations consisting of an item number and other data, usually limited to dimensions. There is no corresponding volume that gives information on the numbered items. Vital for any collector of Asian Art and Objects. A good number of the photographs illustrate more than 1 item, a few show different angles of the same object. It is highly likely that this volume was part of the Yamanaka and Co. research library in NYC, which was auctioned off by the Office of Alien Property Custodian (OAPC) via Parke Bernet Galleries after their seizure of the company in May 1942. VG, but with extensive bug munching on the spine and cover edges and rear cover Contents are VG with the occassional light dampstain line extending across the top of the sheet, very far away from the mounted photographs .
